How To! is a STEAM curriculum resource designed for middle school instructors and students. The content includes four arts-integrated lessons across core subjects, redesigned, organized, and ready to use.
The intention behind the project was to build a STEAM resource that works for two audiences with different needs: instructors, who need thorough, detailed information, and students, who benefit from something visual, engaging, and easy to follow.
The website extends How To! beyond the binder, giving instructors a space to access lesson materials, download resources, and return to the project as new content is added over time.
The binder is split into two sets of materials: instructor pages with instructions for each lesson plan, color-coded by subject for easy navigation, and student worksheets designed to be photocopied and reused across classrooms.
Before designing the student-facing characters, feedback was collected from middle schoolers on their character design preferences. The responses were consistent: nothing too childish, but rather illustrations with a nonchalant, quirky, and slightly more mature personality. That feedback directly shaped the illustrated cast used throughout the student section.
